Our signature HUSTLEx2 celebrates individuals who are executing their professional career goals while also creating additional streams of income – also known as the “Side Hustle.” I wanted HUSTLEx2 to bring together a community of women who are career-driven and entrepreneur focused, and our recent September event was just that. I moderated a discussion between Mavis Hicks, CEO of Beauty N Simplicity, and Stephanie Campbell, Co-Founder Thank You Tees & Public Health Consultant. On behalf of the audience, I would like to thank you for your honesty and transparency about not only your victories along the journey but also your failures, pivots, and small wins in business.
Attendees learned that salary negotiations do not just include the “magic number” but other benefits like free parking, days off during the week and weekend, and working remotely.
Additional takeaways included scheduling “nothing time” on your calendar, making sure you have a circle of friends who not “yes” friends. They should love you enough that they are willing to provide you honest, constructive feedback and finally not being afraid to start the passion project or business.
I caught up with one attendee, who said:
“I appreciated Shana, Stephanie & Mavis sharing their stories of triumphs and trials during their entrepreneurship journey. It helps to know that others can empathize with you, and share valuable information. Too often, we work in silos, and this was a much-needed reminder that others are willing to help when we meet mid-way! Thank you to Shana for bringing these women to the forefront for us to be able to connect with them!”
Moreover, our gracious Speaker, Mavis Hicks:
My dearest Shana Bryant your work never ceases to amaze me. Your events are always spot on – community-driven, purpose-focused, and all about tapping into the most productive parts of ourselves. Thank you for choosing me to speak at HUSTLEx2: Goal Setter and Goal Getter. I am grateful to be apart of your mission to encourage and inspire women of color. #powertothepeople
